With the man of her dreams back in her life and all three of her daughters happy, Ansley Murphy should be content. But she can’t help but feel like it’s all a little too good to be true.
Meanwhile, youngest daughter and actress Emerson, who is recently engaged and has just landed the role of a lifetime, seemingly has the world by the tail. Only, something she can’t quite put her finger on is worrying her—and it has nothing to do with her recent health scare.
When two new women arrive in Peachtree Bluff—one who has the potential to wreck Ansley’s happiness and one who could tear Emerson’s world apart—everything is put in perspective. And after secrets that were never meant to be told come to light, the powerful bond between the Murphy sisters and their mother comes crumbling down, testing their devotion to each other and forcing them to evaluate the meaning of family.
The Southern Side of Paradise is the last book in the Peachtree Bluff series by Kristy Woodson Harvey, and I just LOVED every single bit of it. It’s told from Emerson and Ansley’s points of views this time, and they are going through so much in this book! We also hear more from sisters Caroline and Sloane who each have some major life events of their own going on.
Book three picks up where book two left off, so I was already anxiously awaiting to see where the story was going to go and wow, I was not disappointed at all like you sometimes are when you pick up a sequel, especially the last book in a series. Kristy masterfully handled all the threads of the last book, and I was left reading it feeling as if I had learned some important lessons about family, friendship, and love along the way.
In this book, Emerson seems to have everything she could ever want—her acting career is phenomenally taking off and she’s in love with a wonderful guy. But is her life exactly the way she wants it?
Ansley’s story has fascinated me during the previous two books. She’s a lot like me, a mother who would and will sacrifice everything for her children. I so loved that about her character. She’s been through so much (no, I won’t say what), so I had my fingers crossed she’d get a happily ever after.
I laughed, I cried, I even got frustrated with some of the characters but Kristy does such a wonderful job of making you feel as if you are part of each of the character’s lives, friends or family even, that it’s just so easy to get caught up in their emotions and care so deeply about what is going on with them. As much as I wanted to read this book, I was sad since it’s the last book and I knew I’d be saying goodbye to characters whom I’d grown to love so much and a place, Peachtree Bluff, that has felt so much like home.
Everyone, this series is just amazing and will forever be on my list of favorites…favorite series, favorite characters, favorite setting, and favorite author…it just has it all! The characters are richly developed, the plot is perfectly developed, and Kristy’s writing is just gorgeous. I cannot recommend you pick up a copy of The Southern Side of Paradise more or that you read the other books in the series, Slightly South of Simple and The Secret to Southern Charm! If you can’t tell, I love this book!
