Goodreads Synopsis:

A love story about what happens after you meet, or rather, don’t meet the one.

Laurie is pretty sure love at first sight doesn’t exist anywhere but the movies. But then, through a misted-up bus window one snowy December day, she sees a man who she knows instantly is the one. Their eyes meet, there’s a moment of pure magic…and then her bus drives away.

Certain they’re fated to find each other again, Laurie spends a year scanning every bus stop and cafe in London for him. But she doesn’t find him, not when it matters anyway. Instead they “reunite” at a Christmas party, when her best friend Sarah giddily introduces her new boyfriend to Laurie. It’s Jack, the man from the bus. It would be.

What follows for Laurie, Sarah and Jack is ten years of friendship, heartbreak, missed opportunities, roads not taken, and destinies reconsidered. One Day in December is a joyous, heartwarming and an immensely moving love story to escape into and a reminder that fate takes inexplicable turns along the route to happiness.

My Review:

I admit it, I love a good romance and One Day in December more than delivers. I was enthralled from the moment that I started reading; I felt like I was watching scenes from my favorite romantic holiday movies, and the entire time I was reading I felt like I was connecting with each character on a personal level! It is so emotional and so delightful to read, and I think that Josie Silver has written an outstanding debut novel.

Since I told my hubby’s sister five minutes after meeting him that I was going to marry him one day, I’m a firm believer in the whole love at first sight and insta-love thing, which I know can be a turn off for some people, but after 25 years of being together, I have to say that love at first sight can be magical! So when Laurie’s eyes connect with Jack’s at a bus stop one enchanting, wintry night and they both know they’re each other’s “one”, my sappy, romantic heart immediately went “aww” and became super-ecstatic because I love to believe in tales of love at first sight and fairy tale endings!

Then my heart, along with Laurie’s, was broken since it seemed their love affair was doomed as the bus drove away before either of them could reach the other! I just couldn’t believe fate could be so cruel as to throw the two of them together (for a brief moment anyway) and then rip them apart. And neither does Laurie who spends the next year obsessing about “Bus Boy” by talking about him constantly to her best friend and flatmate Sarah and searching for his face everywhere she goes because she knows without a doubt he’s the man of her dreams.

While Laurie is mourning for her lost love, Sarah falls crazy in love and wants Laurie to meet her new boyfriend, Jack. Of course, Laurie and Jack have already “met” before, since Jack just happens to be “Bus Boy”, the man that Laurie is madly in love with. Of course, Sarah would unknowingly fall in love with Laurie’s true love! Yet, how can Laurie ever tell Sarah the truth about Jack? Sarah is her best friend and Laurie would never stand in the way of her best friend’s happiness even at the loss of her own…

What unfolds is an insanely good book that takes place over the next ten years of Laurie, Jack, Sarah, and a few other character’s lives. The story is told through the perspectives of Laurie and Jack and along with them, we get to experience all the changes they go through in their relationships: the love, longing, happiness, heartache, anger, joy, and passion they share, it’s all there and so wonderfully written that it will make you feel all the feels! Most of all, the very real relationships and friendships these incredible characters share with one another was just amazing, and it made me cry and laugh, want to shake them sometimes, but mostly just root for them and wish them nothing but lives filled with love and joy!

This is a book that makes you question missed chances, fate, whether there is just that one special person for you in a lifetime, friendship versus true love, and moving on when life throws out the unexpected. It’s a romance, but a romance filled with heart and soul that will make you think, feel, dream, and love. You definitely don’t want to miss One Day in December this holiday season! I love it and think you will too!!

    1. Thank you, Jonetta! I know some people see love at first sight and roll their eyes, but I love those stories! Maybe because of my personal experience…and thank you! His sister thought I was nuts, lol. This one is just so very good! I think you’d enjoy it!

It was pretty funny-his sister thought I was gross wanting to marry her brother but I was love-struck and thank goodness he felt the same way, haha! Oh my, now I’m dying to know! I’ll have to keep my eyes out for your non-insta-love story, lol! Have a good Friday! xoxo

    1. I don’t typically read them either unless I’ve been recommended one that I know I’ll enjoy, but this one just sounded so good and other reviews were fantastic, so I couldn’t pass up. It’s not a gooey, cheesey romance, but it’s more about friendships and timing. It’s definitely a feel good book though!
