WWW Wednesday! May 16, 2018

Hi all! I hope that everyone is having a fantastic and a wonderful reading week! Well, sadly, my joy of reading a book a day like I did the first week of May didn’t continue into last week. But that was mainly because my daughter had a nasty stomach virus for four days and then I caught it…reading was the last thing on my mind! And I spent a lot of time my watching things on Netflix and my DVR which I normally never do but for some reason, I feel like curling up and watching TV shows and movies instead of reading. Hopefully, it is just a phase, and I will find a book to pull me out of this mood driven, small, yet totally unexpected reading slump.
WWW Wednesdays is a weekly meme hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words. Here’s how it works: all you need to do is answer the following three questions and link back to her, or you can put your answers in the comments on her blog!

The three WWW questions are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Currently, I’m reading:

I’m still reading Tin Man by Sarah Winman even though it’s only about 200 pages long. It’s not that I don’t like it, but I just really haven’t gotten into it and can’t seem to get past the 30% point. It’s beautiful, tender, and poignant, but the way it is written in an imitative stream of consciousness style is one I’m not in the mood for at the moment. I’m just going to have to let the beauty of the underlying storytelling seduce me or set it aside until I’m in more in the mood for it…

I’ve heard fantastic things about Beartown by Fredrik Backman, but I’ve only gotten to Chapter 6 (10% into it). It’s an audiobook, and I have a love and hate relationship with audiobooks. I don’t always have time to listen to them and if the narrator is awful then I ditch the book. But the narrator is good(ish)…I just need to find the time to listen and get into the story (or buy the actual book!).

I didn’t plan on reading The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan this week, but I’m a bit Royal obsessed, sooo I just had to read it this week before Prince Harry and Meghan get married on Saturday even though it’s not about them! Still, since I plan to be one of those people who will be waking up in the middle of the night to watch the Royal Wedding (I’ve never missed a Royal Wedding since I watched Diana marry Charles when I was only 4 1/2 years old!!), this book just fit my mood perfectly! It’s fun, light, and just fantastic so far!

Since last week I finished reading:

Every Single Secret by Emily Carpenter was one of my most anticipated reads this summer since I loved The Weight of Lies last year! It was absolutely phenomenal 5 Stars! I knew I would love the book, and I was just glad to be right. Emily Carpenter is now an auto-buy author for me and has cemented her place as one of my favorite authors.

The Boleyn King (The Boleyn Trilogy #1) by Laura Andersen is a reimagined history of the Tudors…what would have happened if Anne Boleyn had given birth to a son? This is a book I didn’t plan to read this week, but I was in the mood for some Tudor drama, and I guess really in a British royal reading mood, ha! A fab book…can’t wait to read book two in the series! 4 Stars!

Next, I plan on reading:

Bring Me Back was a book I planned on reading last week, but the stomach flu and my mood had other plans. I definitely plan on getting to it next week as long as there are no other strange mishaps. I love B.A. Paris, so I’m really looking forward to it and am not sure why I haven’t read it yet since I’ve had it since February!

I definitely plan on reading The Boleyn Deceit (The Boleyn Trilogy #2) by Laura Andersen next after just finishing The Boleyn King! I can’t wait to see what happens in the trilogy!

I really hope that The Favorite Sister by Jessica Knoll is good although I’ve heard mixed reviews! The Luckiest Girl Alive was one of my favorite books in 2015, so I’m hoping Knolls doesn’t disappoint since it was a book I pre-ordered!

After reading Bernadette, I’ve just been in the mood for lighthearted, fun books and have been reading lots of family dramas since the beginning of the year. Crazy Rich Asians (Crazy Rich Asians #1) by Kevin Kwan has everything I’ve been in the mood for, so I can’t wait to see if it is as entertaining as it sounds, especially with the movie coming out soon!

Of course, I might decide to read totally different books or watch Netflix all next week and get none of these read, lol! So, this is really just a tentative plan 😉 They could all reappear next week, or I could still be reading my current reads! That’s never happened before, but I’m in such a weird reading mood! I guess that happens to us all now and again!

Well, that’s what my reading currently looks like! How about yours? What good books are you reading this week or have you recently finished? What wonderful books do you plan on reading next? I’d love to hear what you’re reading so I can have more ideas for my ever-growing TBR pile! 🙂

  1. I enjoyed The Royal We…a few years ago.

I’ll be reading Bring Me Back soon…and I love the look of Every Single Secret.

Enjoy your reading…and your Royal Watching. I love that stuff, too. I’ll set my DVR and then watch it afterwards.

    Here’s MY WWW POST

    1. It really is fun! I’ll have it finished today and then I might start Bring Me Back…who knows, lol. Every Single Secret was fabulous and the cover is gorgeous!

Thank you! You too! Yes, I love the royals. It will be fun to watch! Thanks for sharing your WWW post!

  2. I’m one of those who really liked Beartown but not sure how well it would work as an audio. It switches between characters so much you’d need a really talented one or a whole cast. I have the sequel Us Against You which I’m really looking forward to.

    1. That’s good you liked it! And so many people have told me I would. It’s just one narrator, and she’s good, but I think you’ve hit upon my problem right there! I’m 15% into the book, and I’m having some trouble juggling the characters since it does switch back and forth. I hadn’t really considered that might be why I’m not taking much time to listen to it, but I’m sure now that’s it. I’ll try listening again and focusing more on the switches and if I still can’t get into it, then I’ll just get the physical book! Thank you!! 😊

      1. I had heard it was slow but after that it was fantastic. I’m not one for too many characters either, but it depends on the book. I generally do better with those reading a physical book, so I may have to switch. Thanks!

      1. Aww, good! Someone else who understands! I just hate that I have miles of NetGalley and Edelweiss ARCs to read, and I want to read other books that have been on my TBR for months or longer or other new books. I feel terribly guilty that I start one but feel blah, especially since I’m always on time with my reviews for when they’re released…until this week! I missed 2 reviews because I haven’t finished the books. But, as you said it’s good to be a mood reader sometimes! I’d rather read based on my mood than force myself to read something I won’t enjoy because it feels like a chore. Or stop reading at all…🙁

      2. Being a moodreader can have it’s difficulties. Like you said, if I force myself I am afraid I won’t enjoy a book I could actually love or just not feel like readong for weeks. Those ARCs are fun, but can definitely give some pressure. I am still finding a balance in that.

      3. It can, but normally I can manage it. I think I’ve just had such a stressful year with health, etc, that now that I’m on summer break from teaching that I want nothing but to relax and feeling pressured to read something by a timeframe, especially feeling pressured to review it is mainly my problem right now. ARCs are fun,but I think I went ARC crazy lol. I just need a week or so interval to give myself a good break from teaching, etc and read what strikes my mood before diving into my ARC pile. I’m glad I’m not alone in finding that balance!

  3. Hope you and your daughter get well soon! I know the feeling of just wanting to watch Netflix all day. That’s currently where I am as well and have been for like weeks.. lol. Good luck on your current and future reads!

    1. Thanks Nel! I think we’re on the mend. She’s been back to school since Monday but still hasn’t completely gotten her appetite back. At least no one is sick, sick…ugh! Are you watching anything good? I’m about to watch Game of Thrones…yes, I still haven’t watched last season *hides head * At least I have it recorded on my DVR. It feels good to just have to do nothing but watch something. Reading a book you know you’re going to have to review can take the enjoyment out, so I think that’s why I’m in a bit of a slump. Oh well, I’m not going to accept any more ARCs for a while!! I want my summer to be rekaxing, lol. Thanks!! 😊❤

      1. I haven’t found anything good to watch. I watched Dear White People but that was mostly a distraction, haha. I’m thinking of bingeing Grey’s Anatomy from the beginning all over again cause two characters are leaving the show this season and I’m just getting nostalgic, haha. I hope your daughter gets her appetite back soon! I hear you on the reading a book for the express purpose of reviewing. Yes, please have a relaxing summer! There will always be ARCs!

      2. I binged Luther…why I hadn’t watched that till now, I don’t know! Omg!! Then I watched The Fall, which was good too and I’ve got one episode left of The Frankenstein Chronicles! Oh..that would take forever to binge Grey’s, lol. I can understand though. I bawled my eyes out last week’s episode. I can’t wait to see tonight’s!! I’m getting nostalgic too…I love April and Arizona. Yeah, I’m going to do whatever I want this summer even though I do have 27 ARCs. I need to relax and focus on the kids. Connor graduates high school June 12, so we’re all getting anxious about the last few weeks and college stuff. Reviewing books is really the last thing on my mind. Thanks! She finally ate grilled cheese…lol. 😊

      3. YESSS! Omg Luther!!!!! You know a new season is on the horizon right?? I hope Ruth Wilson cameos or something. And good to know you watch Grey’s I can blow you up after episodes! I was biting all my nails off at last week’s episode cause I was like “April can’t go out like this! She cant!”. Thank goodness she didn’t. I can’t for tonight either! I’m secretly hoping Callie makes a cameo and whisks Arizona away. A girl can dream right? Congratulations to your son early! That’s quite an acheivement! And also glad your daughter ate something. Hooray! 🙂

      4. Yes!! I saw that and was excited!! I hope so too! I like her and her character! I love Grey’s! I was too…I usually don’t get to watch it until the next day though because 8 is Kayley’s bedtime and I’m like “go to sleep!” Lol! If she doesn’t, I usually miss it even though I dvr it. That would be amazing if Callie did , but I don’t know. I’m still trying to figure out how April is going to leave since I know she’s not going to leave Harriet. Thank you! It’s been a wild few months with him deciding to have teenage angst and drama all of the sudden, so that’s been fun! But I kicked his a**, figuratively even though I wanted to literally, and he’s been back to his normal self. Teenagers….😒 Yay, finally! I thought she was going to live on saltines…😂

      5. They’ll probably do what Arizona and Callie did for a while where Sophie went off to NY with Callie for a few months and then came to live with Arizona except it’ll be Avery and April doing it now. I hope this wedding isn’t a sign that Alex is gonna be leaving soon. We need to keep Alex! He’s Meredith’s person! Haha. Oh boy! I have a ways to go to get to those years. I might be calling you up for ass kicking tips when I get there, lmao.

      6. Right, that’s all they can do is have them share custody of her. Unless they are evil and kill her right when we think she’s safe! I don’t think Alex will leave! No! I hope not anyway…he is Meredith’s person! Yeah, you do! And he’s never given us trouble and his older brother never did, so it was out of the blue. But it’s ok, it’s part of parenting and learning for them too. Lol, well, I’m sure you’ll know what to do, lol. But I’ll be happy to help!! I just pray Kayley’s not a wild teenage girl. Omg!! I’ll go crazy….

      7. I’m going to watch it as soon as I take her to school!! So don’t tell me anything 😅 I’ve been trying to avoid spoilers since last night. I know some things and was like no! 😂

      1. My goodness, Dani!! I hope he is ok?? I’m still praying for you every day, and I’m glad to hear that things are looking up! I’m thankful for you too!! 🙂
