Blog Update: A Small Break

Blog Break

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to let everyone know that per my doctor’s orders I’m taking an unexpected blog break for the next several weeks, possibly until December when classes end both teaching them and taking them so things will slow down some, since I’ve been experiencing severe, debilitating chronic daily migraines and occipital/cervicogenic headaches that are not responding at all to any of my normal medications for over two weeks now, along with new symptoms of blurred vision, total vision loss in one eye, hand tremors, dizziness, and other odd symptoms, as many of you are already aware.

I just left my neurologist’s office, and he is very insistent that I cut out as much time as I can from computers, cell phones, and tablets  until the migraines are gone since he believes since I’m spending around 18 hours a day on my pc doing assignments for my classes, heavily researching for my dissertation, grading essays, assignments, doing lesson plans, etc, (all on the computer) for work, and then spending hours reading both on my Kindle and physical books that the constant screen time is causing severe eyestrain and in turn is causing the migraines and attributing to the visual symptoms. He also feels that since I’m only sleeping 2-3 hours a night at most and have been for about 6 weeks so I can get everything I need to get done that I am not only suffering from severe exhaustion but the lack of sleep has put me under severe stress that is also leading to the headaches, especially since I do have fibromyalgia and lack of sleep with fibro worsens all kinds of symptoms, causes pain, and doesn’t allow the body to heal. Basically, I’m not taking care of myself but am burning the candle at both ends.

However, he did also send me for a lot of bloodwork to test for and rule out some other issues just in case it is a more serious health issue since I already have several autoimmune disorders and these symptoms are definitely indicative of more serious medical issues or other additional autoimmune diseases, but fingers crossed it is just stress, eyestrain, and lack of sleep!! I also go for a head and neck MRI as well to be safe too and to see if my symptoms stem from any other neurological causes, etc!

I do apologize to all of you for disappearing for a bit, and I hope you understand under the circumstances, but the daily migraines and other symptoms are making it very hard for me to function in every other capacity as well, so I’m starting to neglect my family, fall behind in my classwork, and I’ve had to get a substitute for my classes for  the next few days in the hopes that some sleep and medication will help alleviate some of the symptoms or the headaches entirely.

If my symptoms get better sooner rather than later or as soon as my headaches go away, I will be back to blogging sooner than the doctor had said although I’m going to continue to keep my screen time reduced once my headaches are gone since I do not want them to remain daily or chronic since I already have a history of chronic daily migraines that lasted for over 2 years, which something I do not want happening ever again.

I do have ARC book reviews scheduled via WordPress, so there will be some blog activity while I’m on hiatus, but I may just take forever for me to comment 🙂  ❤ ❤

I will try to check my blog, your blogs, Twitter, etc as I can depending on my pain level and time! But please feel free to message me or email me anytime about books or life or whatever since I will be missing all of you and talking books (readingforlife41@gmail.com), and I will get back to you as I can…even if it is a slow response 🙂 Thank all of you for your support!

Happy Reading to all, and I will be in touch soon ❤

Take care, everyone! 🙂

    1. Thank you so much for the well wishes 🙂 I know you do homeopathic health…do you recommend anything for migraines besides what I have been trying…lavender essential oils, peppermint oil, ice, massage, heat-all these things normally work for me, and I have had migraines since I was 10 years old, and I’m 40 now. Usually the lavender mixed with a carried oil in a roller ball bottle applied to my temple with ice on my head and a nap will do the trick. I’m big on oils and herbals, but I wasn’t sure if I had missed any! I hope you don’t mind me asking!!

    1. Thank you very much! I hope so too. I’ve had migraines for 30 years, but this is a brand new experience. Today is not so bad since I’ve had considerably more sleep the past few days (I was averaging 16-18 hours of sleep a week the past 6 weeks, so I think exhaustion is a HUGE part in it). We’ll see! Thanks again 🙂

      1. Thank you again! Migraines are awful no matter what! I had them 24/7 for over 2 1/2 years about 9 years ago, and that was the most horrible thing I’ve ever experienced. I’m really hoping that’s not what is starting again, but I’m going to do all I can to prevent that! I saw 6 different Dr back then and none could help me until I found my current headache dr, so I’m really confident whatever it is he can help get it fixed. Hopefully sooner rather than later…

    1. Thank you so much! Even though the migraine just won’t budge, I still feel some better since I’ve slept more in the past few weeks than I have in 6 weeks since I was only sleeping 2-3 hrs a night. I think 20 hrs sleep a week or less is the biggest problem since I’m beyond exhausted. Hopefully, getting more sleep will help 🙂

      1. I’m not sure if my comment went through, because my WordPress gave an error, so I will do it again to be safe. I am happy to hear that there is some improvement. I hope the more you sleep the better you start to feel 😊

    1. Thank you, Des! I feel a bit better today even though I still have the migraine. I’ve had migraines for 30 years, since I was 10, but these are different. I’m hoping getting more than 2-3 hrs sleep a night will help 🙂

    1. Thanks Nel! You’re such a sweetheart! I’ll be resting as much as I can and try to figure out what’s going on with these headaches! And I’ll be sleeping like I should have been! I’ll miss you too, but I’ll be around checking blogs when I can 🙂 ❤

    1. Thank you so much! I’m feeling some better after a few days rest even though the headaches haven’t disappeared. But after only sleeping 2-3 hrs a night for over a month, I’m not as exhausted, so that’s a start!

    1. Thank you ❤ I've gotten a lot more rest the past couple of days, and that has helped even though I still have the migraines 😦 I'm still waiting to hear the results of my MRI and bloodwork, and I'm keeping fingers crossed that all is normal! I'll stay in touch though!! I want to know how you're doing too 🙂

      1. I will! I have an appointment to go back next week, so I’m assuming they will all be back then (I’m sure they will be back before then but they will go over them with me then unless it is serious). I’m nervous about them with the blurred vision that I’ve been having and shaking hands, but that has almost stopped since I’ve gotten more sleep, so I wonder if it was coming from only sleeping so little!! My dr said being that exhausted was like being drunk, literally. That is scary… Thanks! I actually fell asleep at 10:30 last night and slept 8 hrs!! I was shocked-I didn’t mean to fall asleep since I was in the middle of doing something for school, but I guess my body had other plans! I felt sooo much better today!

      2. I think lack of sleep can cause really scary symptoms. We just can’t cope without enough of it and especially with other conditions too! I’m so glad they’re settling down now you’re resting abit more. 🙂 Good luck with the results next week but it does sound like it’s the sleep doing it. I hope you are planning more 8 hour sleeps before then. 🙂 xxx

      3. Sorry to be slow answering ❤ My test results came back and have led to more tests and even more tests all week long. I thought it was going to be never-ending! They've pretty much figured out what is going on right now, and the update isn't that great from a medical perspective, but I'm sure it will be okay. Sorry to be so vague, but I didn't want to just post results in a comment on my blog! And after tests and 2 different DR appointments yesterday, I'm still trying to process everything even though the tests and diagnosis just confirmed suspicions that I've had for several months but been trying to avoid. I'll probably do a blog update next week with what is going on if I feel up to it, but I'm going to send you an email (hopefully today) with what is going on so you aren't in the dark 🙂 ❤ But yes, I've been trying to get as much sleep as I can and it has definitely helped! Even 6 hr sleep nights have been great, lol! Anything is better than a 2 or 3 hr sleep night!! The body just cannot heal without sleep, especially when you have so many autoimmune disorders like I do!! Talk soon!!

      4. That’s ok, I just hope that you’re ok. Don’t feel any rush to share your results. Just take the time that you need.
I’m so glad you’re getting more sleep though! It just sets all the normal symptoms when you don’t get enough sleep. I can’t function at all. Are you able to be taking it any easier at work?
Keep looking after yourself and sending hugs. xxx

      5. You’re so sweet!! I started the email to you then got distracted and then was too sleepy later, but I will finish it 😊

I actually took leave from work this week for medical reasons. You can take 12 weeks in America a year and not lose your job, yay! I’m taking the rest of Oct, so I’m hoping to feel some better and be better adjusted by then. If not, then I’ll take the rest of the year if needed. I can’t quit my classes since there are only 7 weeks to go, so it’s too late to withdraw without losing thousands of dollars in tuition.

More sleep does help definitely! I woke up in a lot of pain today, but it’s the 1st fall like weather we’ve had all fall, lol. It’s downpouring and chilly, and I had to be out in it first thing..blah!! So I’m going to curl up on the couch with a blankie, a heat pack, hot tea, read my chapters for homework, and listen to some lectures. Hopefully, that will help 😊 I hope you are well! We’ll chat soon! Hugs to you too! 🤗❤

I’m so glad you’re taking leave for abit too look after yourself and rest. 12 weeks is good! I never knew that. Just take the time you need and don’t feel you have to rush back.
Hope you’re had a resting day today too and speak soon. 🙂 xxx

    1. Thanks, Holly! I’ll be around as I can, and I feel some better since I’ve actually slept the past few days although the headaches aren’t going away! If my headaches are gone by the end of this month, which I HOPE they are since I’m miserable, I will probably be back to posting once a week, whether it’s a review or whatever 🙂 But yeah, December will be here too soon! I usually have my Christmas shopping done by now, and I have started it but am behind big time! I haven’t even gotten my Halloween decorations up, and I usually have those up by now! I’ll be checking in with you 🙂

    1. Thank you Jenn! ❤ I thought I could just keep dealing with everything, and I probably would have if my dr hadn't really chewed me out 😦 I know my health has to come first, but I get so focused on getting everything done. I should know better since the past 2 semesters since I've been in school and teaching I've worked myself into exhaustion (just like now) and gotten really sick. Last spring and fall I ended up with pneumonia, so I guess migraines might be better even though they are more painful 😦 I've had my MRI and bloodwork, so I'm just waiting to hear back…I really hope they are normal! Lots of love to you!! ❤ ❤

Did you change your website address? When I go there, it says you don’t exist….I know that’s not true, so I didn’t know if you were changing domains. Let me know!! I want to check out “Me” 🙂 And I can read your lovely posts too! I just have to cut my screen time and book time to a total of 8-10 hrs a day instead of 16-18 hrs….yikes!! Seems almost impossible but I will figure it out!! 😉

  7. Bless you sweetheart, don’t worry about anything and take care of yourself. Have you tried heat patches for your fibro aches and pains? I find they really help me but I know everyone is different. Can’t help you with the migraines I’m afraid 😔 Xx

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thanks, Beth! ❤ I love heat for my fibro pain even though it doesn’t take it all away. I invested in one of the full body length infared heat mats in the spring on the advice of my physical therapist since it gets the heat deep into the muscles and tissues and not just the skin surface. You can set it for up to 4hrs and lie on it or sit against it, and I don’t think I could get through the day without it. I have 3 herniated discs in my back and sciatica, so that makes my pain worse some days. But when I don’t sleep (and I forget to eat until dinner time most days), I really pay for it with flare ups. You’d think after 20 yrs I’d learn to take care of myself better. My migraines have always been tricky and a pain to treat. They want to try botox, but I’m not too sure!! It’s supposed to work for chronic migraines, but it has possible some nasty side effects. Thanks for your sweet words 🤗❤

    1. Thanks, Steph! He said I could read anything just limit my screen time with a kindle or tablet and use good lighting with books. And not to be on any devices total more than 8 hrs a day, 10 tops, so that REALLY cuts down on how much I’ve been using it for work, classes, reading, etc. I’m not even sure how to manage that. The main issue is I’m using my eyes for such a long period of time during the day without a break…and I rarely ever take breaks not even to eat unless I’m forced to. I just nonstop work, work, work, and stubbornly refuse to budge unless I’m done. I’m a bit crazy that way…and I know it’s horrible for my health. I’ve gotten very ill every semester since starting back to schook because I work myself into exhaustion. You’d think I would learn. I’ve been resting the past few days and sleeping so much more, and I don’t feel as horrible even though my headaches are still around. Maybe more sleep and less screen time will help…I hope!

      1. Oh I hope the less screen time and more sleep helps!! It sounds like it already is! It is difficult though, when you think of how much our lives have come to revolve around things on screens!

      2. I hope so too! I’ve got an appointment with my eye dr too since I’ve not been in 8 year… The prescription for my glasses is way off and I’ve not been wearing them or my contacts for at least 4 years, so I squint a lot of the time now, which I know is not helping. We really do spend so much time on screens! I’m still trying to figure out how to cut my screen time from 16-18 hrs a day to 8-10 hrs a day, lol. I need a clone 😉 But I do feel better getting more sleep-I just wish that had made the headaches go away.

    1. Thanks Lacey! 😊 I’ve had them since I was 10, but they’ve only been super severe the past decade, thankfully! I did have 2 1/2 years where I had them 24/7, and that was the most excruciating pain I’ve been in. It was a nightmare, but they’ve only been happening severely 3-4x a month until recently. I’m hoping they go away soon! I guess after the experience I had of daily one’s I’m really worried that’s going to happen again. I’m so sorry you struggle with them too! Migraines are awful!

      1. True…I should have said I get them 3-4 days straight for one week, lol. And that is bad enough since it wipes me out for an entire week, but I’d rather have that than 1 every day like now. But thank you 🙂 I’m trying!

    1. Hey 🙂 This has just been out of control! I’ve had migraines for 30 years, fibro symptoms for 20 years, been teaching full-time for 16 years (more than I am now), and going to school for my PhD for the past 4 years, so this was just insane since I’ve gone through my life just fine without all these problems…well, sure I’ve had fibro flare up and blips along the way. The last year has just been hell though-I thought it was school getting insane with all the dissertation research, etc and stress, but it’s so much more complicated. I’ve gotten my test results , so I will send you an email with everything going on-hopefully today, but tomorrow at the latest!! I just wanted to make sure to get back with you. ❤

    1. Thanks, hun! Everyone has been so great and supportive of me needing the break to figure out what is going on and to take care of my health! 🙂 ❤ I’ve just been doing too much with teaching and school, and it has caught up with me. Exhaustion makes you feel awful…sleeping about 20 hrs total a week made me feel like I was drunk and dizzy almost all the time, so that's not good! I’ve been sleeping about 6-7 hrs the past few nights, and I feel much better-except the migraines and other symptoms won’t go away for some reason. I’ll be around though when I'm not feeling like crap to read people's blogs 🙂 And I have books that I need to review unless I contact the publisher and tell them that I'm on hiatus per Dr’s orders for health reasons and will post the review when I'm feeling better and return. I’m just so mentally exhausted that I’m not even sure where to start on a review…

  9. I am so sorry that I didn’t see this post sooner. For a couple weeks there I was just on auto pilot. I really hope that things start to improve. I know it’s hard when they’re trying to pin down something with Fibro. They have missed a few things with me because a lot of the symptoms were just the same. Nothing serious but still things that should’ve been addressed sooner. So I’m glad to hear that your doctor did a lot of blood work. I give you so much credit for all that you’re doing with everything that’s going on. Please rest when you need to and listen to your doctor. Have you thought about trying audiobooks for a while? That way you won’t have to focus on another screen. Anyhow I’m sorry again that I didn’t see this. Feel free to message me if you ever need to vent. Big hugs to you 🌸🤗🌸🤗❤️🤗❤️🌸🤗

    1. No need to apologize at all! I certainly understand, and I hope you are doing better! I did get your Twitter message, but things were so bad that week that I just never got the chance to answer you back, but I need to and thank you for thinking of me ❤ Fibro definitely does make things so hard since the symptoms can not only mimic other diseases but occur in other autoimmune disorders; they do tend to miss things when you have it and just write things off as fibro related-they did that with me and endometriosis a few years ago saying the pelvic pain was fibro until I insisted on laparoscopic surgery to diagnosis and then my (then) dr felt rather foolish!

I'm SO glad that my neurologict ordered blood work and sent me for an MRI since it led to them doing more testing, another head MRI with contrast, a spinal MRI, a lumbar puncture to exclude some things, 2 visits with my rheumatologist, visits with specialists, visits back to my neuro, a kidney ultrasound, a kidney IVP X-ray, and a CT scan! Obviously with all that they found something…I'm not dying or anything-I don't want to alarm you!! But I don't want to really put everything in a comment, which I'm sure that you understand. I'll message you soon to share…and vent!! But I'm definitely listening to the Dr, and I've taken medical leave from work with everything that is going on just because it was all too much even though it is classes that is just killing me with all the assignments, but I can't withdraw this late in the semester or I'd lose over $10,000 in tuition! But thank you! I so appreciate your kind words! I thought I was handling everything, and I guess I was until I just couldn't anymore.

I do plan on writing a blog post too updating everyone on what is going on and how I'm doing, but I just haven't had the energy to do that. I will though. School is really taking everything out of me on top of everything else, and I'm SO glad that there is only 5 weeks before final exams (and Thanksgiving week technically doesn't count since there won't be assignments!)!

Again, thank you so much for your sweetness and kind words! Big hugs to you too! ❤ 🙂 Talk soon!
